King's Day of Thanks

Day of Thanks

Last week, King’s Academy marked “A Day of Thanks,” which presented the school community with the opportunity to pause, reflect, and thank those people who have made a difference to their time at school. An annual tradition organized by the Advancement Office, this year the mission of Day of Thanks was extended so that everyone on campus – faculty and staff as well as students – could thank anyone they appreciated. The event, held at the Student Union, witnessed its biggest turnout yet with hundreds of thank you notes written.

“It was so powerful to see the Student Union buzzing with activity and students and faculty writing notes and drawing pictures and thinking about all the people who make King’s so special,” said Associate Head of School for Advancement Davies Bisset. “Students thanked teachers and advisors, teachers thanked other teachers, and so many students and faculty wrote notes of thanks to the dining and housekeeping staff. Even people who the students don’t necessarily know in person, like donors, were thanked because students appreciate what they are doing to support the school.”

Students thanked donors for supporting the people, programs and buildings of King’s Academy, including for scholarships, new equipment in the Dagher Science Wing, and for supporting the Athletic Center and sports teams among other things.

Outgoing Head of School John Austin was the recipient of perhaps the most thank you notes from students who thanked him for impacting their lives and making King’s such a great school, in addition to wishing him well at Deerfield Academy. As one student wrote: “Dr. John, you rock!”
